Sade Live in Rotterdam
It was April 26th, 1993…
I could start this with “When I was 17…” I did not visit the concert Sade gave in Rotterdam on April 26th in 1993. This is the truth, I did not visit that concert. What is the truth is that 18 years and 27 days later, Sade returned to Holland, to Rotterdam, to the same venue (AHOY!). And I was there.
Sade performed like nothing has changed in the ± 10 years since her last album, literally. I cannot think of any artist that has kept the same sound, the same strength, the same voice like Sade. At 52 years of age, Sade Adu still has that same vibe, sensuality, timeless radiance that she has displayed all those years… and I was amazed.
The performance was more than I had expected and the audience showed much respect and love after the long wait for this comeback to Holland. Her personal note to Holland was warm and heartily, the atmosphere was intimate with a lot of joint passion. Although it was a seated concert, the crowd did not sit much as Sade really knocked us off our feet.
A special note to the directors of this concert, as it was amazing how everything came together, was live broadcast within the show, how the combination of Sade, the lighting, the multifunctional stage and her amazing and loyal band created an atmosphere that turned this venue into an intimate and warm thrill.
Besides the never boring classics like Jezebel, Is It a Crime, Sweetest Taboo, Kiss of Life Cherish the Day and King of Sorrow, she performed tracks from her new album “Soldier of Love”, as well as new tracks from her new compilation album, “The Ultimate Collection”. From the latter, let me share the song that blew us away… “Love is Found”. The live version of this song was amazing.
Wherever you are, if you have to travel for it, go see Sade. She has a timeless and amazing radiance you have to experience.
For me… I cannot express how grateful I am to have had this experience. Thank you Sade, you are a living legend.
